Sephora Event: Atelier Cologne Workshop

This afternoon Phil and I attended the Atelier Cologne workshop at Sephora to learn more about the story behind the brand and how the founders Sylvie Ganter and Christophe Cervasel mixed together select ingredients to create fragrances that would take them (and you!) back to a specific memory, emotion, or impactful time in life.

What’s unique about Atelier is that their Cologne Absolue “celebrates the elegance of citruses, the traditional ingredients of a cologne. For the first time, citruses are blended with the most precious raw materials in perfumery for perfectly balanced creations with outstanding lasting power thanks to very high concentration of essential oils.”

The workshop was not only scent-filled fun, but also super instructional to the extent that Phil and I left the workshop with not only two new delicious scents, but also a newfound knowledge and appreciation for the craft.

The workshop began with a quick overview on the history of perfume and its usage before launching into an overall introduction of the brand and then delving into the story and inspiration behind each of the scents. Pictured below, you can see four of the collections in the Cologne Absolue family: Collection Azul, Collection Originale, Collection Metal, and Collection Mateires (from left to right).

After the workshop, with a purchase of a full-sized bottle of cologne, we received a complimentary and personalized leather case containing a smaller container filled with any cologne of our choice.

I loved that we got to see the engraving process of the leather case live in store!

The end result was beautiful, and if that wasn’t good enough already on its own, we were also given a ton of samples to mix & match or switch up as our mood dictates.

For Phil, I selected the Cedre Atlas scent from Collection Azur:

“He woke up suddenly, foggy and out of place. Scenes flashed in his head. They were chasing him. The snow pack was deep. He did not have what they wanted, but they would not believe him if he stopped. So he ran. Exhausted, he fell again. The moment he regained consciousness, a figure approached, she looked at him intently and spoke, ‘I can help you’.”

TOP NOTES: lemon from Sicily, bergamot from Calabria, blackcurrant bud from Burgundy

HEART NOTES: cedarwood from Moroccan rif, jasmine from Egypt, apricot

BASE NOTES: white amber, papyrus from India, vetiver from Haiti

All I can say is that yummy~ For me, Phil selected the Silver Iris scent from the Collection Metal:

“A woman of such intimidating beauty and sparkling vitality gained the adoration of everyone around her. However, no one knew what she had been through. With her wild spirit, she was tough, stronger than metal, and never looked back. When she met him, for the first time in her life, she could stand still. She may have found the absolu man.”

TOP NOTES: tangerine from Italy, pink pepper from China, blackcurrant from Burgundy

HEART NOTES: violet leaves from Grasse, iris Pallida from Tuscany, mimosa from Grasse

BASE NOTES: patchouli from Indonesia, white amber, tonka bean from Brazil
